Police in the US state of Rhode Island announced on Sunday that they have arrested one suspect in connection with the shooting at Brown University in the city of Providence. According to ABC News, officials are not currently looking for any other person, TASR reports.

He is not a university student

A source told the television that the suspect was detained by security forces based on a tip they received. According to a person familiar with the investigation, it is not a university student. At the time of the arrest, the person allegedly had two weapons with him.

US authorities had previously released a video of the suspect, probably in his 30s, who was dressed in black, Reuters reports.

The shooting occurred Saturday near the Barus & Holley Building, a seven-story complex that houses the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Physics. Two students died in the incident and nine others were taken to local hospitals with injuries.

Mayor: Providence residents should breathe a little easier this morning

According to information from Sunday morning, eight injured people remain in hospitals. ABC News reports that seven of them are in stable condition, with one person remaining in critical but stable condition.

“Providence residents should breathe a little easier this morning,” Mayor Brett Smiley said Sunday.

CNN reported that Brown University has canceled all remaining exams, term papers and projects for undergraduate and graduate students for the fall semester.
