“Democracy is defended with mobilization, courage and popular pressure. It is still possible to stop this right-wing initiative that generates more impunity in Brazil”, said PT’s Communications Secretary, Éden Valadares.

In Salvador, protesters gathered at the height of Morro do Cristo and marched along the Barra waterfront. They carried a doll representing the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), with signs that called him a coward, corrupt and a coup leader.

Other protesters carried signs calling him the “enemy of the people” and comparing parliamentarians to criminals. A sound car played songs praising the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Alexandre de Moraes, and criticizing federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro.

The audience was smaller than the protest held on September 21 against the Blindagem PEC. There was no participation of electric trios and artists.

In Brasília, demonstrations were called by unions and left-wing parties, such as PT, PSOL and PC do B. A group gathered in mid-morning in front of the Museum of the Republic, in the central region of the city, for a march towards the National Congress.

Militants made speeches on top of a sound car against parliamentarians, stating that the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, had lost the ability to command the House. They demanded from congressmen the approval of agendas defended by the left, such as the end of the so-called 6 x 1 work schedule.

Left-wing deputies used the argument that the text would benefit organized crime to try to defeat it. In the plenary, Paulinho denied: “The project only deals with the 8th of January, there is no possibility of this text benefiting common crimes”.
