Two US soldiers and an interpreter were killed in an Islamic State attack today in Palmyra, Syria, while supporting counter-terrorism operations, the Pentagon said.
Three others were injured, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the attacker was killed by allied forces.
Earlier, the state-run Syrian news agency SANA and a US official said US and Syrian soldiers were injured today when an unknown person opened fire on a joint patrol by US and Syrian forces in Palmyra.
SANA, citing a security source, emphasized that two Syrian soldiers were wounded and the perpetrator of the armed attack was killed.
