US President Donald Trump said today that the US will retaliate “severely” after an Islamic State attack in Syria that killed three Americans, including two soldiers.
“We will retaliate,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, saying that this was an attack by the Islamic State against the US and Syria in a very dangerous part of Syria.
We mourn the loss of three great American patriots in Syria, two soldiers and a civilian interpreter. Likewise, we pray for the three wounded soldiers who, as just confirmed, are doing well. This is an ISIS attack against the US and Syria, in a very dangerous area of Syria, which is not fully controlled by them. The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and upset by this attack. There will be very serious reprisals”
Earlier, speaking to reporters outside the White House, the US president said the US would retaliate against the Islamic State if US forces were attacked again, noting that the US military had been ambushed.
Three Americans – two soldiers and an interpreter – members of a joint delegation of US and Syrian forces were killed today in Palmyra, Syria in an “ambush by a sniper” of the Islamic State, Washington announced, with Damascus saying that the attacker was a member of the Syrian security forces.
