Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) underwent ultrasound exams, this Sunday (14), at the Federal Police Superintendency, in Brasília, where he is being held. The results indicate the need for surgery, according to lawyer João Henrique Nascimento de Freitas, who is part of the legal team accompanying Bolsonaro.
Freitas said that the ultrasound indicated two inguinal hernias – when there is a displacement close to the intestine due to a problem in the abdominal wall in the groin area.
“Exams identified two inguinal hernias, and doctors recommended that he undergo a surgical procedure, the only form of definitive treatment for the condition,” he said on social media.

Bolsonaro’s lawyers asked for authorization for the tests on Thursday (11) and appointed doctor Bruno Luís Barbosa Cherulli.
According to the terms of the request, there was an “emergency nature” and the procedure would be non-invasive, would not require sedation or hospital facilities.
The former president had been complaining of pain and discomfort. Former Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro published a video on social media in which his father appears sobbing in his sleep.
The exams were authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Bolsonaro has been serving his sentence in a closed regime in a special cell on the premises of the PF superintendence in the Federal District, for almost a month.
First, he was sent to the location for preventive detention after violating the electronic ankle monitor and risking escape. Three days later, the trial in which he was convicted of an attempted coup d’état was closed and he began serving a 27-year prison sentence.
