Right-wing candidate was elected president on Sunday (Dec 14) with 58.2% of the votes, marking a balance between right and left in South America
Chileans took to the streets of Santiago on Sunday (Dec 14, 2025) to celebrate the (Republican Party, right) becoming President of the country. Kast was elected with 58.2% of the vote, defeating the current Minister of Labor (Communist Party).
From March 11, 2026, when Kast takes office, there will be 6 countries governed by the left and 6 by the right in South America.

In his , Kast thanked voters for the votes he won from the 1st to the 2nd round of the election. Before, he, against 26.8% of Jara. Sunday’s results (Dec 14) show that the rejection of the candidates has gained prominence and that the right has united around Kast.
“When the standards are met, the State must comply, and we must be very clear. We will reestablish the law, respect for the law in all regions, without political, administrative or judicial privileges. Chileans are hopeful about what we are going to do, that’s why I say: ‘Thank you, thank you very much to those who joined the 2nd round, thank you to those who voted for other candidacies and today, freely, chose this path of change'”declared the opponent of the current president’s government, (Frente Amplio, left).
Kast received congratulations from and from Latin American presidents.
The president (PT) that Brazil will follow “working with the new Chilean government in favor of strengthening excellent bilateral relations, the solid economic ties that unite Brazil and Chile, regional integration and the maintenance of South America as a zone of peace”.
In his government program, Kast defends the fight against organized crime and the control of migration to increase security. The measures include closing borders to undocumented immigrants, criminalizing irregular immigration, building walls and expanding prisons – proposals that echo policies adopted by right-wing governments such as (Republican Party), in the United States, and (Novas Ideias, right), in El Salvador.
