The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) once again asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), for authorization to carry out a surgery considered urgent.
According to lawyers, the former president’s health condition has evolved in recent days and began to require immediate intervention.
Bolsonaro, who is in the Federal Police Superintendency, is serving a sentence of 22 years and 3 months in prison for a coup d’état. The new request was filed this Monday (15) and reinforces requests previously made by the defense.

According to lawyers, Bolsonaro needs to undergo bilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy, in addition to other less complex procedures. The argument is based on and on a new medical report which, according to the defense, points to an objective worsening of the clinical picture.
On Friday (12), Moraes authorized Bolsonaro to be examined by a doctor for an ultrasound. A day earlier, the minister also ordered the Federal Police to provide a medical examination within 15 days, to assess the real need for surgical intervention.
In the new request, the defense states that the symptoms of pain and discomfort intensified, mainly due to recurrent bouts of hiccups.
“The situation is not a remote hypothesis or of a merely preventive nature”, state the lawyers in the document sent to the STF. According to them, postponing the surgery exposes Bolsonaro to a concrete risk of sudden worsening, emergency hospitalization and avoidable surgical complications.
In addition to authorization for the procedure, the lawyers reiterated their request for humanitarian house arrest to be granted. According to the medical reports attached to the request, the indicated surgeries would require immediate hospitalization, with a predicted hospital stay of between five and seven days.
It is now up to Minister Alexandre de Moraes to analyze the new request in light of the reports presented and the medical expertise already determined by the STF.
