The general director of the PF (Federal Police), Andrei Rodrigues, commented again on the Antifaction PL, authored by the federal government, which was sent to the Chamber of Deputies and underwent changes to the original text. For Rodrigues, “what was initially proposed was unacceptable”, referring to the report by deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP).
After many debates, the text was changed and approved in the Chamber and, in the opinion of the director general, “corrected distortions”.
“From the beginning we had an open, frank and honest dialogue with Senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE). Always open. What was initially proposed in the Chamber of Deputies, which restricted the PF’s actions and resources, was unacceptable. It was difficult to understand,” he told journalists.
According to him, with the new analysis by the Senate rapporteur and “corrected distortions”, the PL will provide more legal security to the police.
Factions x mafias
Defender of maintaining the term faction for criminal groups in Brazil, different from a wing that defended the change to terrorist groups or mafia, Andrei Rodrigues declared that there are differences.
“The text removes and consolidates the model for interpreting mafias and that there would have to be a new body. I took a contrary position and a good part of the legal academy agrees. It is not a new public body that will improve the fight against organized crime. It is not by importing a model to Brazil that we will be able to face it. I reiterate that this agency that fights organized crime is called the Federal Police”, he pointed out.
