Filip Turek should approach his causes like a man, declared Czech President Petr Pavel

On Monday, Czech President Petr Pavel called on Filip Turk, the candidate of the Motorists party for the Minister of the Environment, to stand up to his causes like a man and not think like a little boy. He emphasized that he has no personal problem with him, but his behavior bothers him. Pavel said so in a live broadcast on his Facebook, where he answered the audience’s questions. TASR writes about it according to the portal iDnes.cz.

The President of the Czech Republic specified on the occasion of Turk’s nomination that he wants to ensure that no one who could damage the good name of the country sits in the ministerial position.

Paul’s critical statement

“If the minister should be someone who for most of his life makes it clear that rules and laws exist for the weak and that some are such brats that they can afford to circumvent the rules and ignore the laws, then this is not a good example,” the president explained his position.

He also considers Turk’s posts on social networks problematic, mentioning in particular those that point to his fascination with the Nazi regime. Pavlo also doesn’t like Turk’s explanation that these posts were actually written by friends through his phone. “He should act like a man, not think like a little boy, and when he makes a mistake, just own up to it,” he declared.

The situation around the Turk

Turek, as the only candidate for minister, has not participated in negotiations with Pavlo so far, due to health reasons. Therefore, the Department of the Environment is temporarily headed by the chairman of Motorist Petr Macinka, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He said on Monday that he wants the government to ask the MPs for their confidence in the full assembly.

According to Pavle, the fact that Macinka leads two ministries is a virtue out of necessity. “I will see if and when the vacant ministry will be filled and by whom,” he said.

The Czech Republic has been ruled by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s cabinet since Monday. Czech President Petr Pavel appointed a government composed of the ANO, SPD and Motoristi sebe parties at the Prague Castle in the composition that Babiš had officially proposed to him a week ago. The appointment of a new government ended the four-year government of Petr Fiala.
