American press cites stab wounds and family confirms deaths; Los Angeles police are investigating the case and say there are no suspects in custody
Filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their family’s Southern California mansion, US media reported. The discovery of two dead people in the residence of Reiner, director of “Harry and Sally” and “A Question of Honor”, was revealed by the local broadcaster NBCLA and other media.
The channel NBC cited a source close to the family as saying that the couple was found dead, apparently with injuries caused by a sharp weapon. THE CNN reported that a family spokesperson had confirmed the deaths of Reiner and his wife.
Los Angeles police did not confirm the identities of the victims, but said they were investigating a death. “No one has been detained, no one is being questioned as a suspect,” said Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton. “I won’t confirm whether anyone is being questioned at this time or not. We will try to talk to as many family members as we can,” he added.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also said an investigation is underway. “I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have enormous respect for him,” he said. “An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer and committed political activist, he has always used his talents in the service of others,” the mayor added.
Reiner rose to fame as an actor playing clumsy son-in-law Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the 1970s sitcom “All in the Family,” before turning to directing with “This Is Spinal Tap,” a satire documentary released in 1984. In 1989, he directed and starred in the romantic comedy “Harry and Sally,” starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.
