Several crews are carrying out extinction work in a shanty area on Antonio Cabezón Street in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district. The Samur troops, who are present at the scene on a preventive basis, have so far not had to treat anyone injured.
has received the notification around 2:00 p.m. of the fire that has broken out in that area of substandard housing. Twelve fire crews moved to the scene to control the outbreak, which had “a very significant fire load,” according to an Emergency spokesperson. The flames spread quickly due to the large accumulation of belongings and scrap metal in the settlement.
The fire is already under control, adds the spokesperson, but the extinction will take time because the firefighters will have to remove all the material that has burned and any that could cause another similar incident.
The Police are investigating what could have been the causes that caused the flames.
At the end of November, a similar fire occurred, 10 of which were inhabited, although there were no injuries. In March of last year, also in Leganés, several slums intended for various purposes, some semi-open, burned near the M-406, in the Polvoranca industrial estate, next to the San Nicasio neighborhood. In 2024, on another occasion, a fire in another shanty in that municipality affected nine vehicles and left one man injured by minor burns and three by inhalation. All of them have had in common that the large accumulation of belongings makes the flames spread more quickly.
