Holocaust survivor among fatal shooting victims in Australia

In addition to his wife, Alexander Kleytman leaves two children and 11 grandchildren

A Holocaust survivor is among the 16 people killed in the Bondi Beach shooting in the Jewish community in Sydney, Australia.

The information was confirmed by the Jewish organization Chabad, which organized the event targeted by the attack on Sunday night.

Alexander Kleytman, of Ukrainian origin, is one of the fatal victims. He had survived the Holocaust. He died protecting his wife, Larissa, from bullets.

Larissa is also one of the survivors of the Holocaust – and now this mass shooting.

In addition to his wife, Kleytman leaves two children and 11 grandchildren. The couple had emigrated from Ukraine to Australia.

According to a 2022-2023 report from JewishCare, an Australian healthcare organization, Kleytman faced “terrible conditions in Siberia, where he and his mother and younger brother fought for survival.”

The attack killed at least 16 people and sent more than 40 injured people to hospital. Father and son went.

The shooting, which targeted Australian Jews on the first day of Hanukkah, was described as “an act of pure evil” by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
