The resignation of the deputy (PL-SP), announced this Sunday afternoon (14), was seen by left-wing cadres as an opportunist maneuver to try not to lose her political rights, even after having been convicted and arrested.
During the event promoted by left-wing movements in São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista, deputies and ministers of the Lula (PT) government recalled that the (Federal Supreme Court) already de Zambelli after the Chamber of Deputies in the early hours of Thursday (11).
“She was going to be impeached anyway. Maybe it was a strategy by her lawyer and her, to not eventually become ineligible,” said federal deputy Jilmar Tatto (PT). “It’s an opportunistic resignation, which is very much her style,” he added.
Representative Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL) said that, with her resignation, “she is one less coup leader on the way”.
“I see this as throwing in the towel. Because, in fact, she is already convicted, she is already ineligible and she is in prison. So there is not much room for maneuver. Maybe it was an attempt, I don’t know, legal, to, based on a resignation, challenge the ineligibility.”
The same argument was used by Minister Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development). “I think it was her attempt to avoid losing her political rights. I believe that’s it. But she has to lose and she has to be arrested,” he said.
As shown by Sheetthe resignation was between the president of the Chamber, (-PB) and allies, Zambelli’s family and lawyers.
The decision prevents the Chamber from remaining in a crisis with the STF and frees Motta from disagreeing with the Court – the president was experiencing an impasse and was looking for a way to avoid becoming exhausted with the government, the Supreme Court and the PL, Zambelli’s party and the largest bench in the Chamber, with 85 parliamentarians.
“Carla Zambelli had the condition to be more worthy than the president of the Chamber”, joked deputy Érika Hilton (PSOL) on Avenida Paulista.
Minister Guilherme Boulos (General Secretariat of the Presidency) demanded the extradition of Zambelli, who has been detained in Italy since July this year.
“She is already in prison and had already been removed from office by the Supreme Court. The question now, in the case of Zambelli, is not even about the mandate, but about her extradition to serve her sentence in Brazil.”
In May of this year, Zambelli was sentenced to loss of office and ten years in prison by (National Council of Justice) with the help of hacker Walter Delgatti Neto, also convicted. Because she had Italian citizenship, she fled Brazil at the end of that month, citing fear of being arrested.
In August, she was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for having sex with a man on the eve of the second round of the 2022 elections.
The STF ordered her to serve her sentence in Brazil. The extradition request must be analyzed by the Italian court next Thursday (18). If extradited, she must be taken to the , known as Colmeia.
