Mourning in Colombia: Dead 16 students in a bus fall in a ravine

Sixteen and the bus driver is the is the tragic account in the northwest. It happened when a bus in which the students were traveling fell into a ravine.

The unfortunate students, from the municipality of Beyo, a suburb of Medellín, were returning from a trip to the beach where they had gone to celebrate their graduation.

Fall from 40 meters into a ravine

On the way back, the driver of the bus that transported them lost control, causing the vehicle to fall into a ravine from a height of 40 meters.

“I was sleeping and suddenly I heard screams (…) from that moment I don’t remember anything,” said one of the survivors in a video posted on Instagram.

The driver of the vehicle and 16 students, aged between 16 and 18, were killed, an official in the municipality of Beyo said.

22 wounded

Twenty-two injured, including three in serious condition, were taken to hospital, according to Mr Redon.

Images broadcast by Colombian media showed the wrecked bus in the canyon and rescue workers carrying victims on stretchers.

The message of the Colombian President

Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims. “I don’t like it at all when young people die. Even less when they go to study or celebrate,” the head of state noted via X, referring to the “bad news for our country.”
