The European Union wants to extend the Russian-Ukrainian war from the front lines to the economic hinterland by confiscating frozen Russian assets. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced this on Facebook on Monday and emphasized that it according to him, it amounts to an open declaration of war, to which Russia will react, reports the correspondent of TASR in Budapest.
- The Hungarian Prime Minister criticizes the EU’s proposal to confiscate Russian assets.
- Orbán warns that this step can be seen as a declaration of war.
- He points out that peace in the conflict depends on American activities.
- Hungary refuses to support the financing of Ukraine’s war activities.
- The Prime Minister appeals to resolve the conflict through negotiations.
“This week is dedicated to the EU summit in Brussels. We are also preparing. The Consultative Committee of the Hungarian Parliament for the European Union will meet soon,” wrote Orbán, according to whom the goal of the EU summit is clear, it must be decided whether there will be war or peace.
“Europe stands on the threshold of a huge opportunity because we have never been so close to ending the Russo-Ukrainian war, as the war that we Europeans have not been able to end for four years, the Americans may soon be able to end,” the prime minister added, noting that the Union has no other choice but to support the Americans, but the signals do not indicate that.
According to the prime minister, Hungary has no reason to change its position. “There is no frontline solution to the war. And if there is no frontline solution, then we have to do what (US) President (Donald) Trump is doing, which is to negotiate,” he underlined. Hungary does not support the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, does not send money or weapons to Ukraine and does not participate in EU loans that serve the purposes of war, Orbán concluded his contribution.
