As soon as it was presented, the chocolate Advent calendar that the ÖVP Graz is distributing this Christmas season became a political issue. Not only because it was co-financed by the Economic Association, which also came under public scrutiny as part of the fuss surrounding Chamber of Commerce officials’ salaries. The gift, which has a portrait of party leader Kurt Hohensinner on the back, was actually intended to promote purchases from local retailers. But the edible content of the calendar does not come from Graz, Styria or at least Austria. The chocolate was imported from Belgium, reported the “Kleine Zeitung”, among others.
