The rapporteur of the bill to reduce sentences for coup plotters, deputy (Solidariedade-SP), says that it shows that only left-wing activists are against the measure.
According to USP’s Public Debate Monitor, there were 13,700 people present at the demonstration. “All the videos I published in defense of the dosimetry project had a larger audience than that”, provokes the rapporteur, who was the target of speeches and posters. “One of them, which I did in the Chamber plenary, had more than 300 thousand views”, he states.
For the rapporteur, this shows that public opinion supports the reduction of sentences, which should weigh on President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s decision to sanction or veto the project, if it is approved by the National Congress.
“I think Lula will look at the polls before deciding. It’s clear that the militants have one position, but the people have another,” he declares.
He spoke last week with the and says he hopes the text approved in the Chamber will be maintained.
“Amin knows that changing will only delay the decision in favor of people in prison, because the project will return to the Chamber and will be resumed under the original terms”, he says.
