Karol Nawrocki and Volodymyr Zelenskyj will meet on December 19 in Warsaw. The Polish president considers it an important opportunity to strengthen the countries’ partnership.
The planned meeting of Polish President Karol Nawrocki with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 19, in Warsaw, could become a new chapter in mutual relations between Poland and Ukraine. Nawrocki said this on Monday in an interview with the wp.pl portal and emphasized that the negotiations must take place with respect for Poland’s strategic interest. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.
The Polish president stated that he had not prepared specific initial formulations for the planned meeting, since, according to him, the Ukrainian side was well aware of Polish demands. He reminded at the same time that although it will be the first official visit of President Zelensky, it is not their first contact, as he has already participated in talks with the Ukrainian president several times.
It points to the importance of partnership
Nawrocki stated that the element of partnership in Polish-Ukrainian relations has weakened recently. He emphasized that, as president, he would not agree to Poland being seen only as an antechamber or a corridor in strategically important issues.
In connection with the absence of Poland in some negotiations on the future of Ukraine, Nawrocki recalled that in the formats in which Poland is supposed to be represented, such as the so-called coalition of the willing, the country is represented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The president questioned that Tusk is a respected actor in this format, which he does not consider good news for Polish citizens.
