Several politicians published messages of condolence on the death of the director of ‘Questão de Honra’ and his wife, Michele Singer
Police are investigating the deaths of the actor and filmmaker and his wife as an “apparent homicide”, amid a wave of messages of condolence for the death of the director of hits such as “Harry and Sally – Made for Each Other”. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles mansion with what appeared to be stab wounds, US media reported on Sunday night.
Several politicians published messages of condolence on the death of the director of “Questão de Honra” and his wife. Los Angeles police have not confirmed the victims’ identities, but said detectives from the homicide department were sent to the Reiner family’s home.
“At this time, no further details are available and the investigation continues (…) into an apparent homicide,” the Los Angeles Police Department said on social media. Los Angeles Police Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told the press that “no one has been detained, no one is being questioned as a suspect.”
“I won’t confirm whether anyone is being questioned at this time or not. We will try to talk to as many family members as we can,” he added. CNN reported that a family spokesperson had confirmed the deaths of Reiner and his wife.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, the former president of the United States and the former vice president released statements expressing condolences. “Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and his extraordinary contribution to humanity,” wrote Newsom on the social network X. The governor said he was “heartbroken by the tragic loss.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also pointed out that there is an ongoing investigation. “I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have enormous respect for him,” he said.
“An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer and committed political activist, he has always used his talents in the service of others,” the mayor added. The Los Angeles Fire Department informed NBC that a man and a woman, approximately 78 and 68 years old, were found dead inside the residence.

In turn, Barack Obama highlighted on the same social network that “behind all the stories he produced, there was a deep belief in the goodness of people — and a lifelong commitment to taking this belief into action.”
Reiner rose to fame as an actor playing clumsy son-in-law Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the 1970s sitcom “All in the Family,” before beginning his career as a film director with “This Is Spinal Tap” (1984), a satire in documentary form.
In 1989, he directed and acted in the romantic comedy “Harry and Sally”, starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. He also directed “Conta Comigo” (1986), “A Princesa Prometida” (1987), “Louca Obsessão” (1990) and “Questão de Honra” (1992), among others.
Reiner has openly advocated for several social causes, such as marriage equality and the creation of the ‘First 5’ project in California, which offers development programs for children funded by taxes on tobacco products.
