Surprising twist: The police released the person detained after the shooting at the university!

American police on Sunday released the man they detained in connection with the shooting at Brown University. A police official said authorities did not have enough evidence to press charges. Two people were killed and nine others injured in Saturday’s attack, which the university confirmed were students. Police are still looking for the attacker, TASR reports, according to reports from AFP and CNN.

  • The police released the detained person due to lack of evidence of the shooting.
  • A shooting at Brown University left two dead and nine injured.
  • The attacker is at large, the police are currently continuing the investigation.
  • Brown University has canceled all remaining exams and academic papers.
  • Police have released an image of the suspect, obtained after Saturday’s attack.

The shooting occurred during the second day of the final semester exams and the police spent hours searching for the suspected attacker. Police detained a person Sunday morning, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley later announced that authorities would release the person.

“I think it’s fair to say there’s no reason to consider him a person of interest,” Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha told reporters. “That’s why he’s fired,” he added.

Authorities are still searching for the attacker, but have not released information on the progress of the investigation. Neronha clarified that they will not publish the progress of the investigation, as the attacker is at large. Brown University said in a statement that according to local police, there is no threat to the university. Police released a ten-second clip showing the suspect walking briskly down a deserted street from behind after the shooting. AFP reported.

CNN reported that Brown University has canceled all remaining exams, term papers and projects for undergraduate and graduate students for the fall semester.
