Zuzana Čaputová (52) was the President of the Slovak Republic from June 15, 2019 to June 15, 2024. She was replaced on the post by Peter Pellegrini. After her official end in office, she retreated from the public eye and enjoyed her time away from the cameras. Gradually, however, she began to comment on current topics again. Čaputová spoke in an interview about why she ended up staying in Slovakia.
After the end of the mandate, there were whispers that the ex-president would leave Slovakia. But that didn’t happen. “The reasons were mainly family. After the mandate, I wanted to be more, not less, with my family, but at the same time I also perceived it in a certain sense as symbolic, that many people are leaving Slovakia and have been leaving.” she thought.
It wouldn’t look good. “And as a former president, I didn’t even want to send this type of signal that she also left and left Slovakia and the like. I like Slovakia and I feel that as long as it is possible, as long as it makes sense to me, this is my place, even when it comes to a job,” she continued.
Last year, Zuzana Čaputová spent a few months in the USA at Stanford University, where she worked as a visiting member of the Institute for International Studies. Her stay behind the big puddle was made more pleasant by the visits of her two daughters, and after them, her partner Juraj Rizman came to see her.
In the interview, they also touched on the topic of the war in Ukraine. “For me, the war in Ukraine is, I would say, painful to see how from high positions, including the great leaders of major states, it is slowly being confused who is the aggressor and who is the victim.” ex-president of the SR Čaputová thinks.
