The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he believed that a peace deal in Ukraine is “closer than ever”, after meetings in Berlin between North American envoys and the Ukrainian President.
“I think we’re closer now than we’ve ever been,” Trump said during an event at the White House.
The North American leader also said that today he had “a very good conversation” with European leaders, insisting that he has “enormous support” from allies in the Europe: “They also want this war to come to an end.”
“Right now, Russia wants [a guerra] end, but the problem is that sometimes they want to and sometimes they don’t, and the same applies to Ukraine. So we have to make them agree. But I think the negotiations are going very well”, he stated.
Trump’s statements coincide with statements by senior US administration officials, who described as “really positive in almost every aspect” the talks in Berlin between US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with the Ukrainian President and European officials.
Washington offered Kiev “platinum-level” security guarantees during the two-day dialogue in the German capital, according to sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
