Christmas is not just a celebration of retail, where employees quickly wrap thousands of gifts and sometimes even create their own works of art. Christmas is also the time of year when the most packaging occurs. Nothing will change in the foreseeable future. And yet Christmas 2026 will be different – at least when it comes to the packaging material for gifts and other products. The new EU packaging regulations will come into force next summer. The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, or PPWR for short, poses a number of challenges for companies – and for the government, which must first adapt national laws.
