Flávio says Tarcísio was ‘uncomfortable’ applauding Moraes at an event

Senator and PL presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) stated this Monday that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), was “clearly uncomfortable” while applauding Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes during an event last week. The statement came after the parliamentarian was asked whether he would support Tarcísio as Lula’s opponent in the race for Planalto next year.

— I think Tarcísio is a phenomenal guy. There was a part of him applauding Moraes. Honestly, when I see Tarcísio’s face, he is completely uncomfortable. It’s not a clap of agreement. It’s kind of protocol. I wouldn’t applaud. I would have gotten up and left — said Flávio in an interview with journalist Léo Dias.

The applause occurred at a launch event for the SBT News on Friday. In his speech, Tarcísio said that it is necessary to “build convergence” and that the debate between different ideas must take place “in the political arena”.

Friendly atmosphere

As GLOBO showed, the cordial atmosphere adopted by the governor with President Lula (PT) and Moraes became ammunition for a segment of Bolsonarism that prefers to see Flávio as a candidate for president in 2026.

During Moraes’ speech, Tarcísio appeared on the channel’s broadcast timidly applauding a speech about the withdrawal of the Magnitksy Law by Donald Trump’s American government. The sanction against the Brazilian authorities was articulated by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) as a way of trying to reverse the Court’s actions, especially the minister rapporteur of the coup plot process that led to Jair Bolsonaro’s conviction to 27 years and 3 months in prison.

— The truth won today. The president remembers that, in July, when the Supreme Court met to discuss these sanctions against the Brazilian Judiciary, I asked him not to take any action, not to take any measures against this. Because I believed, as I continued to believe, and today this is very clear, that the moment it reached the North American authorities, the truth would prevail — said Moraes.
