Vienna – Horses were once housed on the site, then the baroque court stables were converted into a trade fair palace. In the 1970s, the first ideas for further transformation into a cultural center emerged. The Museumsquartier (MQ), which has long been one of Europe’s defining cultural areas, finally opened in June 2001. This year, “around five million” people visited the complex, MQ director Bettina Leidl reported on Tuesday. The 25th anniversary will be celebrated in 2026.
