A German government official said on Tuesday that if an agreement on a trade treaty with Mercosur cannot be reached at a European Union summit this week, then the trade pact is ‘probably dead’.
Concluding the deal this month is seen by some as a test of Europe’s ability to act as a unified bloc, days after US President Donald Trump said EU leaders were ‘weak’ at a time when they are also trying to reach an agreement on how to boost funding for Ukraine.
