First, wash the herring fillets thoroughly, pour cold water over them and soak them for an hour. During this time, you can peel the potatoes and cook them. Also boil the beets and hard-boiled eggs. After cooking, cut the potatoes into cubes, once they have cooled down.

Peel and grate the beets. Likewise eggs. Chop the cucumbers and onion into cubes. Cut the herring fillets into smaller pieces and place them at the very bottom of the bowl. Then add mayonnaise and season with pepper.
