Labor package under negotiations; It is a way to reach the minimum wage of 1,600 euros

The Minister of Labor considered that the new proposed by the Government is one of the ways to achieve the goal of minimum wage of 1,600 euros per month and hopes to resume negotiations in a constructive spirit.

Speaking to journalists, Rosário Palma Ramalho was asked about resuming negotiations with the UGT (General Union of Workers), which takes place today, Tuesday, hoping to have “constructive spirit”.

The Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, who had stated that the executive led by Luís Montenegro rejects going back to “square one” in the reform of labor laws, he considered that the labor package is also a way of achieving the minimum salary of 1,600 euros per month, but “not alone”.

“The creation of wealth in Portugal, the promotion of wealth creation requires a set of policies that must be coordinated”, he pointed out.

The government official defended that it is necessary to have labor legislation that “helps the economy to grow, that is looking at 21st century labor relations, that does not remain focused on factory floor work”.

This Tuesday, in the late afternoon, there is meeting between a minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security and UGT – General Workers Union.

UGT continues to argue that the Government’s ideas will create precariousness and facilitate layoffs.

A CGTP will not be at this meeting but he requested, this Monday, a meeting with the Prime Minister, to address with Luis Montenegro the meaning of the general strike.
