María Corina Machado fractured vertebra during secret trip from Venezuela to Norway

Venezuelan opposition leader was treated at a hospital in Oslo

Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado suffered a fractured vertebra during her secret trip last week from Venezuela to Norway.

According to information provided by the Norwegian newspaper, the injury occurred during a high-risk sea crossing, made in a small fishing boat, exposed to strong waves, at the beginning of the journey to Europe.

“The fracture of the vertebra is confirmed. At the moment, no other information will be released other than that contained in the article [do Aftenposten]”, stated Claudia Macera.

According to the same newspaper, the Venezuelan leader was observed at the Oslo University Hospital, in Ulleval. After arriving in the Norwegian capital, on Thursday morning, Machado mentioned on several occasions his intention to be evaluated by a doctor, without specifying the nature of the health problems.

The trip, carried out under strict secrecy, prevented her from arriving in time for the official Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, which took place on Wednesday in Oslo.

Despite her injury, María Corina Machado appeared shortly after arriving in Oslo and even went beyond a security barrier to greet supporters gathered near the hotel where she stayed.
