Nunes and Tarcísio meet with Silveira to discuss Enel concession

The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), stated that he will meet this Tuesday (16) with the governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveirato discuss Enel’s operations in the state.

“I just received a message informing me that a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, at 2:30 pm, with the minister, who has the power over . I will be with Governor Tarcísio and we will present all the issues related to the suffering of the population”, said Nunes in an interview with the program Roda Vivafrom TV Cultura, this Monday (15).

São Paulo authorities have intensified pressure on the federal government to end the concession of the electricity distributor in São Paulo. According to the mayor, studies in the capital indicate that the losses accumulated due to the company’s recurring failures already total around R$5 billion.

Last Wednesday (10), approximately 2.2 million people were left without power in the state.

“We cannot be held hostage by a company that does not have quality service, does not respect the population and there comes a time when we have to stop,” he stated.

The mayor also criticized the defense, made by minister Alexandre Silveira, of an early renewal of Enel’s contract, which expires in 2028.

“What I’m going to tell the minister tomorrow is that a company that doesn’t meet standards, doesn’t serve the population and has caused so much disruption cannot be compared to others. When a trader loses products from the freezer or a hairdresser loses three months of income, this needs to be taken into account”, he concluded.
