Quaest: Group that argues that Lula should run in 2026 grows to the highest level in 1 year

The majority still considers that the president should not run for office, but the share that supports a new mandate jumped to 43%, the highest level since December 2024

The percentage of voters who believe that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should run for re-election in 2026 has grown. This is what the new Genial/Quaest survey, released this Tuesday (16), points out.

According to the survey, 43% of voters agree with the PT candidate for re-election, compared to 38% in the previous survey. It is also the highest percentage since December 2024.

The growth in support for Lula’s candidacy comes after the arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is ineligible, and the pre-candidacy of his son Flávio Bolsonaro for 2026.

In total, the survey interviewed 2,004 voters in 120 municipalities between December 11th and 14th, with a reliability level of 95%. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus.
