SP has lowest homicide rate in 25 years, says government – 12/15/2025 – Panel

In October, the State of recorded the lowest rate of robberies, robberies and homicides since the historical series began in 2001, according to the Public Security Secretariat.

The death rate fell from 33.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2001 to 5.53 in the monthly average between November 2024 and October 2025. The number is also lower than the average of 5.65 per 100,000 in the same period of the previous year.

Also according to the state government body, in 2023 there were 2,605 homicides, compared to 2,517 in 2024 and 2,011 until October this year.

Robberies also reached the lowest number since 2001. There were 109 cases, a drop of 24.3% compared to 2024. Robberies, including cargo and bank robberies, had a reduction of 15% across the state.

The government attributes the drop, among other factors, to technology and intelligence actions and programs such as Muralha Paulista, monitoring with cameras.

“There was a change in the understanding of crime. The Military Police spent more time carrying out overt patrolling, while the Civil Police began to expand into investigations, always working in an integrated manner”, says the Secretary of Public Security, Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves.
