According to the governor, the country will need to face sensitive issues in the coming years, such as administrative reform, the untying of revenues and the universalization of public financing.

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), highlighted the harmony between the Powers in the State, the strength of São Paulo’s agribusiness and the need for structural reforms to face the country’s fiscal challenges. The statements were made during the Municipal Agro Paulista Award – 2025 Edition held at Palácio dos Bandeirantes.

During the event, the governor stated that São Paulo is differentiated by the institutional relationship between the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary. According to him, joint work between the Powers focuses on the interests of the population. “Here the powers work together, they don’t fight, they don’t compete for protagonism. Everyone looks at the interests of the citizen”, he stated.

Tarcísio spoke again about the national economic scenario and warned of what he classified as an already contracted fiscal crisis. According to the governor, the country will need to face sensitive issues in the coming years, such as administrative reform, the untying of revenues and the universalization of public financing. He associated the advancement of these agendas with the role of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) and stated that, at some point, the debate will also reach the National Congress.

When thanking the president of Alesp, André do Prado, Tarcísio classified the São Paulo Legislature as a “partner of the government”. The governor acknowledged the existence of political differences, especially with the opposition, but highlighted that this is part of the democratic environment and should not be treated as enmity.

Praise for agriculture

During his speech, the governor also highlighted agribusiness as a “niche of excellence” and one of the main pillars of national development. For Tarcísio, the sector is a reference in productivity and sustainability and has a strategic role in agendas such as energy transition, food security and the growth economy.

Tarcísio de Freitas also stated that he never publicly criticized his predecessors in office. “I never said anything bad about my predecessor and I won’t. If São Paulo is what it is today, it’s because they did their best. It’s up to me to do my best now”, he declared. In an emphatic tone, the governor said he believes that “the impossible does not exist” when there is planning and cooperation between institutions.

The ceremony also marked the farewell of Guilherme Piai as head of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply. Piai leaves the department to run for a federal deputy seat in 2026 for the Republican party. During the event, he criticized the Workers’ Party (PT). Geraldo Melo Filho, former president of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), takes his place.

Closing the event, Tarcísio de Freitas signed decrees aimed at strengthening São Paulo’s agriculture, in addition to land regularization agreements and titles, reinforcing state government actions for the rural sector.
