The so-called “automobile package,” negotiated under the patronage of President Ursula von der Leyen, provides “more flexibility” for automotive companies in the transition to “clean mobility.” The fundamental goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 remains intact, the Commission said. But it should be seen as “pragmatic”. In other words, manufacturers are no longer obliged to stop selling combustion engines from 2035 onwards.
