You long for the scent of needles that permeates the entire room and preferably the entire apartment. But instead of that, you might smell it once and then you won’t smell even a hint of the tree anymore. “A cut tree really only smells for a short time,” says Jana Bucharová, an expert in the magazine Receptář on garden topics, in the podcast. But he knows how to ensure the scent of pine needles at Christmas.

Salvation in a flowerpot?

The first thing that might come to your mind is that you should go eco-friendly and buy a tree in a flower pot. After all, you have a garden, space too, so why not plant it outside in the spring. But it won’t be that simple either.

The tree intended for planting may only be at home for a few days. Three and enough. “In addition, you cannot heat it in any way, it must be as far away from the heater as possible so that it does not wake up too much from winter hibernation and the sap does not start flowing in it,” explains the expert. But it is the heating that helps release the typical scent. And when the tree is in the cold, it won’t smell again.

The scent in the air

Jana Bucharová’s clever trick will come in handy especially if you buy just . But you can’t go wrong with the cut one either. “A tree indoors needs enough air humidity,” he explains. “You can mist it, but it’s easier to put a mist fountain near it or under it, or just a humidifier.” And then nothing prevents you from dropping a few drops of essential oil into it regularly. Whether you choose spruce or pine is up to you.
