A terrible tragedy shook the whole world on Sunday, December 14. On Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, at least 16 people lost their lives during a terrorist attack during the celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. Among them was the Slovak Marika, who came from Komárno. The news of her death was confirmed on the social network by the Jewish community in Komárno.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon reported that the attackers were a father (50) and son (24). The police managed to shoot the older shooter, while they detained the other. The authorities identified the younger of the pair as Návid Akram, who is currently in a critical but stable condition. Australian authorities are not looking for any other perpetrators.
The police confirmed that the 50-year-old attacker had a permit to possess six firearms. Police in New South Wales are investigating the incident as a terrorist attack aimed at the Jewish community in Sydney. One of the active shooters was disarmed with his bare hands by an eyewitness when he approached him from behind a car in the parking lot.
Slovak presenter Simona Simanová was also in these places in the past days, for whom her fans were really afraid. She assured them on social media that she was fine. “Those of you who know, write to me if we are OK. Thank goodness we are. We left Bondi for lunch and flew to Zealand. We arrived at night, I wasn’t on my cell phone,” she explained.
She was in for a real shock. “Now I get up, open my phone and receive messages… It’s hard for me to find words, it’s terrible what happened… But I believe that if something is going to happen to you, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Australia or at home, it just happens… So thanks to that up there, we’re OK,” thinks the presenter.
Despite the tragedy, she found a pinch of something positive. “And again I can be a little bit happier and appreciate life and every single day in this beautiful world” she wrote strong words. “Take care,” she concluded with her followers.
