What fish from Polish waters is healthy? Without a doubt, it is a catfish with better health properties than carp. Unfortunately, most people have no idea how valuable ingredients are in their meat.
First, let’s get to know the main characteristics of catfish. What does it look like? It is the largest freshwater fishwhich can measure up to 5 m and weigh 300 kg. There are smaller specimens in Poland – they are 2.5 m long and their weight is about 100 kg.
The catfish has a slimy body that is not covered with scales. It is distinguished from other fish by its characteristic whiskers above and below its mouth. It naturally lives in the salty waters of the Baltic Sea.
What does catfish taste like? Its meat has a delicate, sweetish taste. It has a low bone content, unlike the popular carp.

We can prepare catfish in various ways. It is most often served fried, just like carp bells. To do this, we remove the skin and guts from the fish and then clean it thoroughly. Cut the meat into pieces, season them with salt, pepper and your favorite herbs, coat them in flour and fry them over high heat until they turn golden.
It’s worth roasting catfish. Then it will be more delicate and aromatic. All you need to do is season it and put it in an ovenproof dish together with vegetables, i.e. carrots, celery and potatoes.
There is also a recipe for catfish in vinegar marinade, which is prepared from vinegar, water, salt, sugar and favorite spices. Pour this mixture over the cleaned and cut into pieces fish and leave in the refrigerator for several hours, preferably overnight.
