Zoomarine Algarve was again distinguished, for the eighth consecutive year, with the Global Humane Conservation™ certification, awarded by American Humane, in recognition of the company’s continued commitment to excellent practices in the care and well-being of the animals in its care.
Since 2018, the year in which it became one of the first zoological parks in Europe to obtain this international certification, Zoomarine has uninterruptedly maintained this recognition, the result of an independent, demanding and scientifically supported evaluation process.

In statements released by the entity, Ana Salbany, director of the Zoomarine Zoological Collection, highlights that “Global Humane certification once again recognizes the dedication and work carried out by the Zoomarine teams in the area of Animal Welfare. It validates our work in an objective and independent way in accordance with internationally recognized welfare criteria. Its continuous renewal demonstrates that the work carried out is based on strong scientific criteria, which go beyond animal care, recognizing the individual experiences of each member of our zoological family and promoting positive life experiences.”
Among the criteria evaluated within the scope of the Global Humane Conservation™ certification are aspects such as the suitability of habitats, nutrition, water quality, lighting and shadow conditions, environmental stimuli, levels of physical activity, social interactions and the technical preparation of professionals who work directly with animals. The assessment is adjusted to the specific needs of each species, ensuring a technically rigorous approach.
The renewal of certification also reinforces visitors’ confidence in the work carried out by Zoomarine, ensuring that the experience offered to the public is based on high standards of responsibility, transparency and respect for animals.
With this recognition, Zoomarine reaffirms its positioning focused on “the continuous improvement of animal care practices”, consolidating a path “consistent and recognized over almost a decade of continuous certification”.
