  • The American president congratulated Andrej Babiš on taking office.
  • Trump expects cooperation in defense, energy and migration with the Czech Republic.
  • Babiš’s party plans to review costly acquisitions, including the F-35.

US President Donald Trump congratulated Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on taking office. In a post published on Wednesday night on the Truth Social platform, he said that expects “great things” from the new Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, including an agreement on the purchase of F-35 fighter jets. TASR informs about it according to the AFP report and Trump’s post on Truth Social.

“It is great to see that Andrej Babiš has been appointed again as the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. Together we will once again achieve great success in the areas of defence, energy and illegal migration – just as we did during our first term in office.” wrote the President of the United States. AFP reminds that Trump was in the office of the president for the first time in 2017-2021, at the same time Babiš was the prime minister of the Czech Republic.

According to Trump, Babiš, who assumed the position of prime minister on Monday, knows how to make agreements and expects “great things from him, including the F-35.”

Novinky.cz portal stated that the previous Czech government decided to purchase 24 American fighter jets in 2023, while the then opposition led by Babiš’s ANO movement repeatedly criticized this move. Babiš said in a video published in March that the government had decided to buy “unnecessary and, in our opinion, overpriced F-35 fighter jets.”

ANO claimed in its pre-election program that they will reevaluate costly acquisitions, such as the F-35, in their opinion, and focus on investments that will be effective and will really increase the defense capability of the Czech Republic.
