The former president would undergo a medical examination this Wednesday morning (17) to assess the need for surgery. This procedure will take place at the National Institute of Criminalistics, located on the Federal Police premises in Brasília, where Bolsonaro is detained after being convicted of a coup d’état. The decision to carry out this examination was taken by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the (Supreme Federal Court), following a request from the former president’s lawyers, who claim urgency in the surgical intervention.

Last Sunday (14), Bolsonaro underwent an ultrasound exam that detected the presence of two inguinal hernias, located between the groin and abdomen. The former president’s defense argues that he has been suffering from increasing pain and discomfort in the region, which increases abdominal pressure and the risk of intestinal strangulation. The initial request for surgery was made last week, but Minister Moraes chose to request a medical examination before making any decision.

After today’s exam, the medical report will be sent to Moraes. Based on the documents presented by the defense and the results of the expert examination, the minister will decide on the need for surgery. Bolsonaro’s medical team has already informed that, if the intervention is approved, the former president will need to be hospitalized for a period of five to seven days.
