Dosimetry PL could reduce the former president’s sentence, but the deputy assesses that the text does not pass the Senate nor would it have presidential sanction
Federal deputy Erika Hilton (Psol-SP) stated this Tuesday (16.Dec.2026) that the former president (PL) must be held responsible and serve the sentence of 27 years and 3 months imposed by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) for an attempted coup d’état. The statement was given in an interview with Poder360 when asked about the expectations of approval of the Dosimetry PL by the Senate.
“There is nowhere to go, there needs to be accountability and even though, if it happens, we know that President Lula will veto it if it reaches the table,” he said.
Watch (49min38s):
With the approval of the Dosimetry PL, Bolsonaro’s sentence could be reduced to 2 years and 4 months. The proposal works as an alternative to the Amnesty PL, which reduces the sentences of all those convicted of the acts of vandalism on January 8th and also of those who were convicted of the attempted coup d’état. The project passed the Chamber on December 10, 2025 and went for analysis in the Senate.
The deputy stated that the proposal will not pass the Senate in 2026, since, upon reaching the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission), the rapporteur of the proposal, the senator (PP-SC), must make structural changes to the text, which would possibly hinder the final processing of the proposal in the House.
“I don’t know if it will reach the Senate plenary and most likely, if it does, it may not have enough votes to be approved, because unlike the deputies, the senators think of a majority vote and the majority of the Brazilian people are against the dosimetry project. So, I think this is yet another confusion created by Bolsonarism to see if they can get Bolsonaro out of jail”analyzed Erika.
