Berlin – The German government has initiated the controversial reform of citizens’ money. The draft law by Labor Minister Bärbel Bas, approved by the cabinet on Wednesday, provides for a transformation into a “new basic security”. The cash benefit will in future be called “basic security money”. The reform aims to increase the pressure on benefit recipients to take up work. In addition, the sanctions for breaches of duty and missed deadlines are being tightened.
