Is it going to be a holiday today (12/17) in Rio?

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), and the state governor, Cláudio Castro (PL), announced last Monday (15) on social media that this Wednesday there will be an optional point throughout the state and also in the capital, starting at 12pm. The decision will be made official through the Official Gazette, with publication scheduled for this Tuesday (16).

“It’s a good thing that the mayor is a Vasco fan and the governor Cláudio Castro is a Flamengo fan! So that’s it: Wednesday has an optional point from noon onwards. Enjoy it, cheer a lot, but with responsibility and respect. Have a good week and good games!”, wrote the mayor.

What does optional point mean?

It is a decree from the public authorities that allows public offices to operate on a given day. In practice, whether or not to work depends on the employer and the sector, as the measure does not automatically apply to the private sector.
