The Louvre museum in Paris was partially reopened this Wednesday (17), despite employees voting unanimously to extend the strike that began on Monday (15) over wages and working conditions.

The strike comes in the wake of the , as well as recent infrastructure problems, including a , which exposed glaring security failures and revealed the deteriorating state of the museum.

Nearly nine million people visited the museum in 2023, or about 30,000 visitors per day.

Louvre director Laurence des Cars, who has faced intense criticism since the 88 million euro (about US$103.14 million) thieves in October, was due to answer questions from the French Senate on Wednesday afternoon (17).
