Louvre remains closed amid strike and employees are considering extension

The Louvre Museum in Paris, the most visited in the world, remains closed this Wednesday (17), while its employees continued discussions about the possibility of extending the strike for better wages and working conditions, which began on Monday (15).

The strike comes after a , as well as recent infrastructure problems, including one that damaged old books, exposing glaring security flaws and revealing the poor state of the museum.

The say that Louvre staff are overworked and poorly managed, and demand more hiring, salary increases and a redistribution of funds.

Louvre director Laurence des Cars, who has faced intense criticism since thieves took crown jewels worth 88 million euros (about $103.14 million) in October, is expected to answer questions from the French Senate on Wednesday afternoon.

The museum is usually closed on Tuesdays.
