The president (PT) called this Tuesday (16) a meeting with representatives of the three Powers to deal with the issue, after a sequence of cases were registered in the last month in Brazil.
At the meeting, the president spoke, discussed the topic with his ministers and ended the meeting without announcements for the area.
From the STF (Supreme Federal Court), President Edson Fachin and Minister Cármen Lúcia were present. State ministers such as Macaé Evaristo (Human Rights), Ricardo Lewandowski (Justice), Márcia Lopes (Women), Anielle Franco (Racial Equality) and Camilo Santana (Education) also attended.
“I decided to take on the responsibility that we needed to create or build a kind of movement that could become a pact against feminicide, against violence against women, against rape, that is, against everything that is a barbaric crime, that we did not imagine could happen”, he said at the meeting.
In a speech shortly before the meeting, at an event in Planalto, the president commented that the presidents of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), and Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), were also invited, but would not go due to the Congress agenda.
“I have now invited the president of the Supreme Court, the president of the Superior Court of Justice, Alcolumbre and Motta are not coming because they have a session there, but I want to discuss what we are going to do to improve.”
At the meeting, which took place behind closed doors, he once again mentioned the heads of the Legislature, with whom he is experiencing turbulent times.
“I then decided to say that I was going to take responsibility against the President of the Republic for trying to create conditions to bring together the Brazilian Powers, including the Chamber and the Senate, which are not here because they were in session now, but who are willing to take on this task with us”, he further stated.
The call for this Tuesday’s meeting had been announced by Lula in a public speech at the 14th Social Assistance Conference, last week. The topic has been discussed in Lula’s public speeches over the last month.
