Lula holds last ministerial meeting of the year – 12/17/2025 – Power

The president (PT) will hold his last ministerial meeting of the year this Wednesday morning (17), in a meeting in which, according to assistants, the PT member must demand from those present for their commitment to the 2026 electoral project.

The ministerial meeting will be at Granja do Torto, the official country house of the Presidency. At this periodic meeting, which usually takes place at least twice a year, the president brings together his ministers to take stock of the government’s deliveries.

According to allies, Lula has been making demands behind the scenes for loyalty to his re-election project. This is one of the messages that the PT member intends to convey at this Wednesday’s meeting, according to these people. He must also take stock of 2025 and comment on priorities for next year.

Lula has repeated that, from now on, the government needs to look beyond governability and focus on its political objectives. Furthermore, the PT member has insisted that people who will not support him in 2026 cannot remain in the government.

The summoning of ministers takes place on the eve of the election year and at a time when Lula is facing tensions in his relationship with both the Chamber and the . The PT member saw deputies vote, against his will, on a bill that reduces sentences for those convicted in the coup plot process, including the former president (PL).

In the other House, the relationship with the president (-AP) has been strained since Lula decided to nominate the attorney general of the Union, Jorge Messias, to the STF (Supreme Federal Court), ignoring appeals from senators for the chosen one to be (-MG).

This is the third ministerial meeting of the year. The first was carried out at the beginning of the year, in January, while the last was carried out in August, when the tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazil were among the management’s main concerns.

At the last meeting, Lula and his ministers wore the cap with the slogan “Brazil belongs to Brazilians”, designed by the administration, reinforcing the nationalist tone adopted since Donald Trump’s tariff. At this meeting, criticisms were also made of (PL-SP), defenses of the regulation of big techs and the government’s current slogan —”Government of Brazil – on the side of the Brazilian people”— was announced.

Created by the Minister of Secom (Secretariat of Social Communication) of the Presidency, Sidônio Palmeira, the slogan replaced the one used since the beginning of Lula 3’s term.

On that occasion, special attention was given to ministers Fernando Haddad (Finance) and Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs) and vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (Industry, Commerce and Services), for their participation in the tariff negotiation.
