Mexican president asks UN to “avoid bloodshed” in Venezuela

MEXICO CITY, Dec 17 (Reuters) – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called on the United Nations on Wednesday to ‘fulfill its role’ to prevent bloodshed in Venezuela, as tensions rise between the South American country and the United States.

Sheinbaum said during his morning press conference that Mexico is against foreign intervention and interference in Venezuela.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered a ‘blockade’ of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela, a move that Nicolás Maduro’s government called a ‘grotesque threat’.
