Allies of the mayor () articulate the resumption of the virtual plenary, adopted during the pandemic, to be able to vote remotely, a measure criticized by the opposition for restricting the possibility of obstruction in the São Paulo City Council.
The idea under study is to include the measure in a draft resolution already voted on in the first round and which prohibits the awarding of honorary titles three months before the elections.
A similar draft resolution, authored by the councilor (PSD), was blocked on October 22 at the Constitution Committee. He tries to revive the measure as an amendment to the Bureau’s draft resolution. In addition to him, Novo and the government base would also be involved in articulating.
The initiative is criticized for the possibility of restricting the opposition’s actions, for example, in requests to verify presence in roll-call votes on controversial matters.
“It’s regrettable that São Paulo councilors want to enter into the logic of shielding and distancing themselves from the people as we have seen in the National Congress”, says PT leader, Luna Zarattini.
“It is the role of elected councilors to work for the city, being present at sessions and seriously discussing projects. We need respect for the population of São Paulo and not councilors voting on projects while traveling to other countries or from their homes in their pajamas.”
The PSOL bench released a statement against the measure. “The amendment, which was not debated in the College of Leaders or in another House discussion forum, nor in any public hearing, will be included in a bill that does not deal with the topic, a maneuver called ‘jabuti'”, he says.
Currently, only smaller projects, such as street names and granting of honors, are voted on virtually.
