Portuguese rescued from fishing vessel in Ireland after complex operation

A fishing vessel with a mostly Portuguese crew was stranded last Sunday in the port of Dingle, in the southwest of Ireland, requiring the intervention of local authorities to safely rescue all occupants.

According to the Irish press, the boat, identified as MV Fastnet, lost power as it left the port, ending up being dragged by the sea current to the rocks of Bínn Bán beach, where it became immobilized, unable to return to the sea.

The alert was given at around 11:30 am local time, prompting an immediate response from Irish authorities. On board there were mainly Portuguese citizens, as well as some crew members of Indonesian nationality.

The rescue operation was coordinated by the Valentia Coastguard Maritime Rescue Center and involved several resources on the ground, including members of the Dingle Coastguard, a rescue helicopter from Shannon, a coastguard aircraft and a lifeboat from Valentia.

Adverse weather conditions significantly hampered the operation. Strong winds, rough seas and poor visibility made the rescue time-consuming and demanding. For this reason, the crew’s removal only began at around 12:23 p.m., with the men being lifted individually by helicopter. The operation ended at approximately 1:08 pm.

After the rescue, all crew members were evaluated by medical teams on site. According to authorities, there are no reports of injuries and everyone is out of danger.
